Apples

How we can help

Our biological programme for apple orchards ensures rapid orchard establishment, meaning you can harvest your first crop sooner. This is due to the programme improving the soil, which creates bigger, better shaped apple trees with more extensive root systems.

Healthier trees also mean better quality apples (including dry matter percentage, colour and flavour) and optimal yields. Other benefits include higher nutrient uptake by the tree, and more resilient plants during environmental stress, and longer fruit storage.

Our soil programme also benefits the orchard by remedying soil compaction problems by repairing soil aggregate formation and increasing carbon sequestration which helps with soil aeration and drainage.

Evidence

Apple and pear trial sheet
This trial sheet covers two trials that ran in Victoria, one looking at the effect of Mycorrcin on a newly planted Sassy apple orchard and one on the effect of Foliacin on a commercial Piqa Boo Pear orchard.
Royal Gala Apples
Mycorrcin was used in a Hawkes Bay apple orchard, resulting in 12% more apples at the first major commercial harvest – amongst other benefits.

Our standard programme

Ground application programme suited for heavier soils

Apply Mycorrcin at planting for rapid orchard establishment and then regularly over spring, summer and autumn for improvements in tree architecture and fruit quality and yield. In established orchards a regular Mycorrcin programme assists with root growth, soil health, fruit set, fruit yield and fruit storage.

Digester applied in autumn assists with carbon and nutrient recycling.

Foliacin is applied regularly to the foliage with cover sprays, to improve fruit set and size.

To help your plants get established and cope with the stress of being planted or replanted, we suggest. the following approach.

Product Timing Application
Mycorrcin Prior to planting

Apply Mycorrcin 2 L/ha with weed spray to the planting area. Soak roots of all the plants for planting in a large container of 1:100 Mycorrcin (10 mL/1 L per plant) solution for 20 minutes.

Digester For heavy disease over-wintering, cut-out diseased orchards 6 L/ha in a minimum of 200 L of water applied over leaf litter to the soil.

Almonds

How we can help

Our biological programme for almond orchards ensures rapid orchard establishment, meaning you can harvest your first crop sooner. This is due to the programme improving the soil, which creates bigger, sturdier trees with more extensive roots that take up more nutrients. Healthier trees means higher nut set and total nut and kernel yield. Other benefits include more resilient almond trees during environmental stress such as drought or flooding.

Our soil programme also benefits the orchard by remedying soil compaction problems by repairing soil aggregate formation and increasing carbon sequestration which helps with soil aeration and drainage.

Evidence

Long-term trial of Mycorrcin on NSW Almond Orchard
The three-year trial compared five products in side-by-side trials conducted by Elder’s. Mycorrcin-treated trees had the highest nut set, nut count and kernel yield per tree. The Biostart programme produced an extra net $611/ha over the three-year trial, this is an equivalent return on investment of 97%.
